Old Ottawa South sits on the strip of land between the Rideau Canal and the Rideau River, and most of it was built out in the first half of the 1900s.
Homes are mostly detached and semi-detached brick and clapboard houses on quiet streets off Bank Street and Sunnyside Avenue, many with basements that were finished long after the house was built. Older basements are where the time goes: dust, humidity and the corners nobody has reached in a while.
Being next to Carleton University, there are also plenty of rentals, which means steady move-in and move-out work tied to the academic year. Those cleans are about getting a place back to deposit-ready, including inside appliances and cupboards.
Owner-occupied homes here tend to be lived-in family houses, so recurring visits focus on kitchens, bathrooms and floors that see real use.
